Takoyaki Juhachiban Dotonbori
About
No visit to Osaka is complete without indulging in takoyaki, and Takoyaki Juhachiban stands as a true institution in Dotonbori. This beloved stall elevates the humble octopus ball to an art form, distinguishing itself with a secret ingredient: tenkasu, or tempura bits, mixed into the batter. This ingenious addition creates an incredibly crispy outer shell that gives way to a molten, creamy interior, cradling a succulent piece of octopus. The chefs, with their mesmerizing speed and precision, expertly flip dozens of these golden spheres on specially designed griddles, a spectacle in itself. The aroma of savory batter and sizzling octopus fills the air, drawing in hungry crowds. Served piping hot, drizzled with sweet takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, and sprinkled with bonito flakes, each bite is an explosion of umami. Locals often recommend grabbing a plate and enjoying them immediately, leaning against a railing, savoring the authentic street food experience as the city buzzes around you. It's a taste of Osaka's soul.
Local tip
